May-October 9am-9pm, November-April: 9am-7pm

With its six minarets and sweeping architecture the Sultanahmet or "Blue Mosque" impresses from the outside. Unlike Aya Sofya, this is still a working mosque; entry is through the courtyard on the SW side. Sultan Ahmet I built this mosque near the end of a career that was somewhat tainted by military ineptitude. He used money from the treasury to build this mosque. No shorts or bare shoulders (shawls are provided) and you will need to remove your footwear.
The Entrance is free.
